Post Production 2- Filming Process and Editing

         Skylar and I began reshooting the second take of our film on Monday. We planned this process to take 2 days, allowing us to have enough time to assure the clips were ideal and went together smoothly. The first day of filming we began by filming the scenes in the hallways and in the classroom. We shot each scene a few times in order to have options for clips we could use while editing, and made sure to hit different angles to capture various emotions. Because the first day of filming took place during one of our class periods, we had limited time to use the classroom. We wrapped up the first day of filming by filming the scene with the teacher and discussed coming back to film again the next day. 

    Day two of filming began after school on Tuesday. We revisited the classroom and filmed the last scene of the film, where Troy walks through the door. The girl actors had to change back into the same clothes they had on the day before to match the outfits throughout the whole film. After shooting this scene, we filmed the girls walking up the stairs and made our way to the parking lot to begin filming the opening scenes. We used Skylar's car in order to film the opening scene of the girls arriving to school and getting their backpacks. Ella's car was parked behind in order to make the parking lot look more full, like it would as people are arriving to school. Once the car scenes were taken, we filmed a shot of the girls walking up to the school, wrapping up the filming process.

    We filmed on Skylar's iPhone 12 Pro in order to have better quality shots. Using this phone enhanced the mise en scene by making the colors look brighter, adding a more upbeat feeling to the film like we wanted to execute. This device also provided better sound quality, which was one of the main elements we needed to improve on.

       Due to Skylar being an actress in the film and myself having to do the filming, we have agreed on Skylar doing the main parts of the editing. She will import the clips into the Adobe Premiere Pro software and put them in order, cutting out any unneeded clips. She will also add in the bell sounds in the areas needed and include the title and credits. I will add in the background music and watch over the film to confirm the film is edited smoothly and flows how we would like.

     Last week as a class, we started presenting our films and magazine projects in order to receive feedback and some critical criticism from our teacher and peers. Skylar and I volunteered to show our film first and took notes on the criticism we received. Overall, most the class didn’t have anything too harsh to say. It was commonly stated that it was hard to hear the actors, specifically the teacher in the theater scene, due to having to wear masks and not having a professional microphone. Their advice was to lower the background music or to in cooperate subtitles to let the audience know what is being said clearly. Some other suggestions brought to our attention were to use less transitions, fix lighting in some scenes, as well as including a larger variety of camera angles. Title Sequence Clip Review

Films and movies are watched by everyone, sometimes throughout someone's entire life like me for example. People watch movies as a form of entertainment and a way to pass time. But what most people don't notice about movies is that the entirety of the film has meaning, including the introduction and opening sequences. For example, the fonts, colors, and music used in the beginning sequences help give an insight to what the movie might entail. For example, in the opening of the movie "SCREAM," the title is shown in red and blue flashing lights to resemble police car lights, and then fades to just solid red to represent blood. Just the color of the title and the abrupt shift of colors can help infer that the movie could possibly be about bloody actions and trying to get the cops involved but can't.
