Magazine Cover Review

As a kid I remember always seeing my mom reading magazines in her free time. I always thought of them as just stories to read or pictures to look at to pass time. As I have grown older and have read a handful of magazines myself, I now know that their purpose is more than just stories and pictures, and that a lot of detail is required to publish more successful edition. Starting with title pages, I have learned that magazine editors must pay close attention to the colors, fonts, photos, and subtitles used. Take title pages as an example; editors must make sure the colors, fonts, and photos all come together aesthetically and organized. Editors usually use black and white text for most of the body text but tend to use bright colors like red and yellow for headings and titles. For example, on the Travis Scott edition of the GQ magazine the titles and headings are presented in a bright blue color with a flashy flame-like font. Another example is an edition of Men's Health, where black and white was also used as the body text font color, but red is used as the font color for the title and headings. Editors include more important details and headings in a brighter or flashier colors to draw more attention to it as well as possibly making it look more appealing. Editors of magazines also must make sure their articles are appealing to read. In an edition of the Oprah magazine, a photo of her smiling holding a puppy is placed in the cover, but the title main article is about how to deal with death and grief. In order to make this magazine appealing to the audience, she used a more positive photo to show that you can still find joy in grief. Also, in an edition of Better Homes and Gardens, the author includes many orange and black details in the photo and text to show that the magazine would be Halloween themed. To attract the audience more, photos of 'do it yourself crafts' are placed throughout the magazine to show people they have the ability to recreate them, which might draw them into purchasing it more.

Post Production 2- Filming Process and Editing

           Skylar and I began reshooting the second take of our film on Monday. We planned this process to take 2 days, allowing us to have enough time to assure the clips were ideal and went together smoothly. The first day of filming we began by filming the scenes in the hallways and in the classroom. We shot each scene a few times in order to have options for clips we could use while editing, and made sure to hit different angles to capture various emotions. Because the first day of filming took place during one of our class periods, we had limited time to use the classroom. We wrapped up the first day of filming by filming the scene with the teacher and discussed coming back to film again the next day.      Day two of filming began after school on Tuesday. Peer Review

     Last week as a class, we started presenting our films and magazine projects in order to receive feedback and some critical criticism from our teacher and peers. Skylar and I volunteered to show our film first and took notes on the criticism we received. Overall, most the class didn’t have anything too harsh to say. It was commonly stated that it was hard to hear the actors, specifically the teacher in the theater scene, due to having to wear masks and not having a professional microphone. Their advice was to lower the background music or to in cooperate subtitles to let the audience know what is being said clearly. Some other suggestions brought to our attention were to use less transitions, fix lighting in some scenes, as well as including a larger variety of camera angles. Title Sequence Clip Review

Films and movies are watched by everyone, sometimes throughout someone's entire life like me for example. People watch movies as a form of entertainment and a way to pass time. But what most people don't notice about movies is that the entirety of the film has meaning, including the introduction and opening sequences. For example, the fonts, colors, and music used in the beginning sequences help give an insight to what the movie might entail. For example, in the opening of the movie "SCREAM," the title is shown in red and blue flashing lights to resemble police car lights, and then fades to just solid red to represent blood. Just the color of the title and the abrupt shift of colors can help infer that the movie could possibly be about bloody actions and trying to get the cops involved but can't.
